louis: “someone recently said something very interesting about how so many people focus on the ‘endgame’ without enjoying the doing. i’ve been thinking a lot more about what success means to me. i feel like i’ve been mistranslating it for the past 3 years…. what i should be doing is forgetting about perception and to a certain degree worry less about being defined on commercial success…. i’m here to make music i love and make my fans proud to say they’re a fan.”
harry: “during the course of making the album i kind of redefined, you know, how i defined success…. and then um, talking to another friend…. he’s said like ‘if you’re happy, then no one can tell you that you’re unsuccessful’…. so i think kind of adopting that frame of mind and having that sense of ‘oh well if i’m making stuff that makes me happy than i’m gonna feel really good about it’ rather than trying to keep everyone else happy, um, was like really freeing…. and liberating to kind of kind of let go of a lot of the strings…. about what numbers something had to do and how many streams something had to have and that kind of thing.”
